The Evolution of Inner-city Music Venues in Brisbane: A Focus on Iconic Places

November 2023December 2024

This research documents the evolution of iconic music venues that characterised the punk and post-punk era in Brisbane (1976-1990) with a focus on the 'story' of an informal venue: The Curry Shop was first established in St Lucia on Sr Fred Schonell Drive as the ‘Curry House’, then at 409 George Street. This research will expand academic knowledge about the cultural history of Brisbane with a focus on popular music.
