Associate Professor Malini Srivastava from the University of Minnesota visited UQ VisLab for a research exchange with Associate Professor Fred Fialho Teixeira and Professor Ben Hankamer.
The discussion explored bio-based materials and their potential applications in architecture and the built environment, with particular attention to microalgal and cyanobacterial pigments incorporated into biopolymers, colour as a material and design strategy, and the development of more sustainable architectural materials.
The exchange brought together Associate Professor Malini Srivastava’s work in resilient and regenerative design with the biodesign and material research of Associate Professor Fred Fialho Teixeira and Professor Ben Hankamer. The researchers shared perspectives on current work and considered how these emerging material systems could inform future architectural research and applications.
The visit also provided an opportunity to explore potential directions for future interdisciplinary collaboration between the University of Minnesota College of Design and UQ VisLab.
