ADPS3003: New urban identity with digital heritage and social networks

Join us for an immersive one-month field experience across China, visiting Shenzhen, Nanjing and Tianjin, as part of the ADPS3003 intensive course in Nov/Dec 2026.

This unique opportunity allows UQ students studying in EAIT's School of Architecture, Design, and Planning to explore the transformation of historical and culturally significant cities in the modern digital era. Participants will examine firsthand how contemporary citizens and netizens engage with culture heritage urban spaces enhanced by social media and emerging technologies, shaping new interactions, programs, and the evolving image of cities.

Students will initially spend 12 days visiting Tianjin and Shenzhen, analysing its cultural factors, emerging needs, spatial form and programs impacted by social media, public interactions with the site, and the overall planning and design for the brand/vision/operation mechanism of the site. For the remainder of the month-long program, students will be embedded in an immersive learning environment within Southeastern University in Nanjing, a top architecture school in China.  Here, UQ students will partner with students from Southeastern University and supported by local academic and industry leaders to synthesise from previous site visits, and work on a selected urban fabric in Nanjing with cultural significance.

The course is open to 2nd and 3rd year students from the Bachelor of Architecture Design, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor Urban and Regional Planning. Master of Urban Design and Development, and Master of Urban Planning. Coursework will be completed by the end of the field trip.
