The Collaborative Workshop provides facilities and equipment for architectural model making and 1:1 scale prototyping. The CoLab also offers a variety of model-making materials available for students to purchase. The workshop is equipped with a full range of hand tools, woodworking machinery, a flatbed CNC router, and laser cutters. Enrolled students can access information about the CoLab through Blackboard (look for My Organisations > COLAB).
The CoLab is prioritised for ADP students and is open Monday-Friday 8.00 am – 3.00 pm. It is a flexible space, designed to adapt to the different stages of the design process. Students are encouraged to use the CoLab as an informal study space where they can test their designs with 3-dimensional forms, make some mess and noise, and get creative. It is expected that students clean and tidy the area after use.

CoLab training
All students are required to complete the 51 & 51A Building Induction and Hand Tool Safety Induction as well as machine-specific skills training. Laser Cutter skills training sessions are offered during Weeks 1-4 of Semesters, and can be booked through Blackboard > COLAB > Laser Cutting > ‘Laser Cutter Bookings: Training’. For all other machine-specific skills training, visit the CoLab office located in Zelman Cowen 51-101.
CoLab PPE
Closed-in shoes are required to access all UQ workshops. Steel-capped safety shoes may also be required where specified. Other personal protective equipment will be provided by the CoLab staff.
